Harvard Kennedy School Indonesia Program encourages and assists students with an interest in Indonesia from Harvard Kennedy School and from across Harvard University by supporting their winter and summer internships, independent research, and other forms of study conducted in Indonesia. Summer 2013 Research Grant Recipients Announced

• Geros, Christina, SD Master's in Urban Design and Master's in Landscape Architecture 2015 and Gilbert, Karina, GSD Masters in Urban Design 2014: In this joint research, with the support of the Solo Kota Kita organization, Geros and Gilbert will research the politics of design within Jakarta, one of Indonesia’s fastest growing urban centers.

• Hadisoemarto, Panji Doctor of Science Candidate at HSPH, 2014: As part of his dissertation research, Hadisoemarto will work on his research titled: “Adoption of New Vaccination into National Immunization Policy: A Case Study from Hepatitis B Vaccine and Lessons for the Dengue Vaccination Policy.”

• Kusumaryati, Veronika, Ph.D. Candidate at the Department of Anthropology, FAS, Harvard: As part of her dissertation research, Kusumaryati will expand on her research, titled: “Video. Xerox, Computer: Media and Technologies in Contemporary Indonesia.”
• Lahiri, Antara, HKS MPA 2013: Lahiri will support the UNICEF office in Jakarta, Indonesia, to work with Child Protection Cluster and the Social Protection and Monitoring Cluster on reforms to the governmental child welfare system in Indonesia.
• Naranjo, Sandra HKS MPA/ID 2014: For her summer internship, Naranjo will work with the Water and Sanitation Program (WSP) of the World Bank in Jakarta.
• Torres, Clara Pava, HKS MPA/ID 2014: For her summer internship, Torres will work with the Indonesian Vice President's Office of the National Team for Accelerating Poverty Reduction (TNP2K) in Jakarta.

Research Grants Eligibility & Deadlines
Any Harvard University students who will return to campus for at least one semester after completion of the grant. Grant applications are accepted twice a year:

• On October 31st of each year for grants during the following January break, and
• On April 1st of each year for grants during the following summer break.

The deadline for Summer 2013 grants has now passed. For more information about the January 2014 grants, please contact Trisiawati Bantacut at 617-384-8156 or hks_indonesia@hks.harvard.edu. In addition, the grants may be used by HKS students who are conducting Policy Analysis Exercises (PAE) or Second Year Policy Analyses (SYPA) projects to defray travel costs in the event that the student's client in Indonesia is not able to fully cover all travel expenses. How to Apply
Students interested in applying for support of an internship, independent research project, or other form of study conducted in Indonesia in the summer or during the January term should send the following materials via e-mail to hks_indonesia@hks.harvard.edu:
1. Proposal (see description below)
2. Resume or CV
3. Transcript (unofficial is acceptable)
4. Recommendation from faculty including willingness to advice on methodology and analysis (an email endorsement is acceptable)

Research Proposal Components (3 pages maximum)

• Project description including research question, methodology, and context, i.e. relevance to Indonesia to your field and/or to goals of HKS Indonesia Program Research Priorities

• Personal impact statement including how project relates to your past experience, area of study, and future plans

• Timeline and destinations. Special note for January term applicants: Applicants should be realistic about how many meetings, consultations, or other cities can effectively be scheduled in Indonesia over the Christmas and New Year's holiday. Based on experience, January term projects are usually most effective when the applicant can build upon existing contacts or structured activities/internships at existing organizations

• Budget including airfare, accommodations, local transportation, and other expenses

• Deliverables (we require a report and formal presentation)
