Nguyen Xuan Thanh is the director of the Public Policy Program at the Fulbright School in Ho Chi Minh City. He has been a permanent member of the Fulbright School faculty since 2002. Thanhâ€™s work is focused on public investment, infrastructure development, and energy. His recent and ongoing research projects include a study of Ho Chi Minh Cityâ€™s transportation infrastructure (conducted with Tony Gomez Ibanez) and an examination of the role of state-owned enterprises in infrastructure and real estate development. Prior to joining the Fulbright School, Thanh served as an official in the municipal government of Ho Chi Minh City.
At the Fulbright School, Thanh teaches courses on case studies for policy analysis, financial analysis, and the appraisal of public investment decisions. He directs the Fulbright Schoolâ€™s Masterâ€™s in Public Policy program, the first degree program in public policy to be offered in Vietnam. He teaches regularly in the Fulbright Schoolâ€™s executive education and policy dialogue initiatives.
Thanh earned a B.A. (hons) in economics from the University of New Delhi, an M.S. in economics in finance from the University of Warwick, and a M.P.A. from Harvard Kennedy School. In 2003, he was a fellow in residence at HKSâ€™ Center for Business and Government.
